Coran Oberlin Obituary

Coran Oberlin

August 13, 1978 - March 30, 2025

Coran "Cory" D. Oberlin, 46, of Asheville NC, passed away on March 30, 2025.

Cory was born on August 13, 1978, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He graduated from Hickory High School in 1997 and received his B.A. from Tufts University in 2001.

A gifted artist and creative mind, Cory worked as a Hollywood set designer and was widely known for his contributions to the film and entertainment industry. Beyond his professional work, Cory was a passionate community leader, artist, and art collective facilitator in Asheville, where he fostered creativity and connection through collaborative projects.

Cory's friends and family will remember him as endlessly creative, inquisitive, stubborn, honest, and loyal.

He is survived by his father, Deloy, his stepmother, Margie, and his younger brother, Brandon. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kate, who passed away in 2017 after a battle with breast cancer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to World Central Kitchen in Cory's memory.

A remembrance gathering will be held at Cory's childhood home at a later date. To receive an invitation and service details, please email [email protected].

I am absolutely speechless. I met Corey when I was 15 in Venice Beach in 2001. He introduced me to the didgeridoo and gave me my first job. I was his second in command at the dodge booth. I have pictures of Corey from back then and think of him often. Tonight, he crossed my mind and I decided to look him up to reconnect and found this. My heart is broken. To his family, his brother Brandon (whom I met) and everyone else, please know that my heart is absolutely bleeding. Corey was my big brother... he taught me so much about absorbing our environment and living in the moment. Please know that I deeply mourn with you all. Love, Brandon Sandoval - Richland, Washington
