Dan Crump Obituary

KANNAPOLIS - Dan Henry Crump, 73, of Kannapolis, died June 10, 2007, at Duke Medical Center in Durham. Mr. Crump was born April 17, 1934, in Catawba County to the late Albert and Junie Powell Crump. He retired as a commercial artist and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. In earlier years, he was a drag racer, competing in North and South Carolina. He was an avid NASCAR fan and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was affectionately known as "Paw" to everyone. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Hudson Crump; a daughter, Sandy Atkinson and husband, Guy, of New London; two sons, Scott Crump of Concord and Danny Crump and wife, Janie, of Indian Trail; six grandchildren, Stacey Graham, Kevin Wright, Amy Storch, Jessica Lowe, Emily Crump and Daniel Crump; seven great-grandchildren; and his beloved pet, Daisy. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Tuesday, at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Pauley officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte. Whitley's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I know you were a wonderful man because you raised a wonderful and special daughter, Sandy Crump Atkinson. I hope you knew how happy we are to have her in our family. Sandy is a wonderful wife to my brother. She is like a sister to me. Thank you for all your love and support for her.

Walter remembers meeting you and the 2 of you joking with each other re: Marines vs. Navy!!! Although we did not know you personally, your daughter Sandy is an asset to our family. He called me "Sweetums." Paw will always be a shining light in my life. He was very tough and overcame many obstacles. He loved his family dearly and left us many memories to treasure. I take comfort in knowing that he now watches over us. I love my Paw!
