David Lee Roberts, 81, of Maiden, passed away Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, at Atrium Health Lincoln.

He was born Sept. 29, 1941, in Catawba County, to the late Guy Rollins Roberts and Ola Elliott Roberts.

David was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Newton, but attended Faith Baptist Church in Newton where his grandson is a pastor. He was a 1960 graduate of Newton-Conover High School, and the owner of Mt. Olive Motors in Newton. David enjoyed serving on mission teams to Puerto Rico, Honduras, New York, Mississippi, West Virginia, and all across North Carolina. He had a giving heart and was a kind and thoughtful man who would help anyone in need. David would hear of a need and immediately begin to work to find a way to provide. Once, he heard of a community in Kentucky where the children needed bikes and he began collecting and refurbishing bikes to send to them. He had a great love for his family and meant the world to each of them. His eyes would light up when one of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren, who he called his "babies," were with him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Guy "Jack" Roberts and Alton "Gene" Roberts; and sister, Mary Harrison.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Joyce Cranford Roberts of the home; sons, Guy David Roberts and wife, Lynette, of Sherrills Ford, Kevin Lee Roberts and wife, Carol, of Cherryville; daughter, Julia Styers and husband, Mike, of Newton; brother, Charles "Charlie" Roberts of Conover; grandchildren, Brandon Styers (Julia), Ashley Giannico, Julianne Surratte (Aaron), Dustin Roberts (Julia), Joshua Roberts (Amy), Jason Styers (Kimberly), Amber Roberts, Jonathan Styers (Heather), Heath Roberts, and Keaton Roberts; and great-grandchildren, Rylee Styers, Wesson Styers, Nicholas Giannico, Ryder Houston, Beau Surratte, Noah Roberts, Kelsey Surratte, Oliver Giannico, Walker Hill, and Abigail Styers.

A memorial service to celebrate David's life will be held Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 3 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Newton. The Rev. Dusty Roberts and the Rev. Fred Thompson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, prior to the service. The grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
