Doris Reynolds Obituary

Doris Dellinger Berry Reynolds

December 28, 1925 - August 6, 2021

Doris Dellinger Berry Reynolds entered Heaven Friday, Aug. 6, 2021.

She was born to Ralph and Addie Dellinger, Dec. 28, 1925. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, the Rev. Frank Berry; second husband, the Rev. A.L. Reynolds; son, Gene Berry; stepdaughter, Sarah Oliver; stepson, Dawson Reynolds; and stepgrandson, Doug Mott.

She showed great courage and commitment by marrying two Methodist ministers and blending two families who have remained close and loving.

She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Miller (Stephen); sons, Gavin (Kristy), their son, Gatlin Miller, and Patrick and his partner, Robert Worley; daughter-in-law, Teresa Berry; daughter, Carol Croscutt (Duane) and her children, William Hardy (Sherry), Todd Hardy (Leigh) and Amanda Smith (Jeff); grandchildren, Eric Hardy(Amanda), Blake Hardy (Kristina), Jady Fuller (Brian) and James Smith, and her grandchildren, Rylee Smith, Seth Fuller, Scarlett Hardy, and Hannah Wessell; daughter, the Rev. Joyce Reynolds, her children, Cori (J.C.) and Ashley Reers (Cevin), and her grandchildren, Landon, Aiden, and Bryce Weatherford, and Allyson and Addison McGovern. Also surviving are her granddaughters, Cindy (Mike) Mallard and Susan Moore (David) and their sons Robb, Will, and Joel.

Doris was a wonderful soloist in her youth and sang for many funerals and weddings. As the minister's wife, she was often called to be the pianist as well. During her time as a minister's wife she lived in West Jefferson, Crossnore, Spruce Pine, Trinity, Rougement, Durham, Greenville, and Kittrell. In 1981, after the death of her second husband, she returned to Hickory to take care of her mother. She reconnected with old friends and enjoyed her grandchildren. She loved her Carolina Panthers.

In her waning years dementia weakened her. Dementia is a cruel disease. It robs the family and the person of precious time and it is very painful seeing your loved one present physically but not mentally.

A special thanks to Trinity Village and Hospice for their loving care. Also thanks to Karen Rose, Margaret Suthers and Alisah Setzer who assisted with her care over the years. Further thanks to Gail Underdown, Elaine Sorenson and Neil Gray who shared the love of Christ with her.

Being the selfless person she was, she donated her body to Baptist Hospital for research.

Our family is united in our love for Doris and thankful for the life she lived and the way she touched us all.

A celebration of her life will be held at Bass Smith Funeral Home Sunday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m.

Please be mindful of COVID-19 guidelines.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association - Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Rd., Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
