Eleanor Holmes Obituary

Eleanor L. Holmes, 91, of Randleman, NC, formerly of Moundsville, WV, died Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Westchester Manor in High Point, NC.

She was born July 22, 1934 in Moundsville; the daughter of the late Lloyd Charles and Dortha Fae (Earnest) Jones.

Eleanor was a retired secretary for a collection agency in Wheeling, WV; a member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Sherrills Ford, NC and Eastern Star 86.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, L. Dean Holmes; a brother, Nathan Jones; a sister, Joan Clegg; and son-in-law John Greathouse.

Survivors include three children, Sheila Greathouse of Conover, NC, Shari (David) Wright of Randleman, NC and Gary (Crystal) Holmes of Moundsville, WV; nine grandchildren, Dr. Meagan (Jared) Wright Godwin, Patrick (Samantha) Wright, Ryan (Ashley) Wright, John Earnest Dean Greathouse, Christopher (Brittany) Greathouse, Deanna (Sam) Moose, Spencer (Kyle) Davis, Cameron (Haley) Holmes and Walker (Ciara) Holmes; several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4:30 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, with Rev. Wesley Howsare officiating.

Graveside services and interment will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville.
