Eric Robert Michaels, 57, of Hickory, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday March 12, 2023.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 11 a.m., at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Hickory. The family will receive friends following the service.

I just heard that Eric passed away. He was a special man. He was my customer for over 18 years. He was always so kind & considerate. His eternity is now secure with Jesus. I will miss seeing him, but we shall meet again.

I've had the opportunity to work very closely with Eric over the last few years. It was always enjoyable to work with him. He was a great work partner. I always looked up to him, he was patient, helpful, positive, fair and determined. He loved his family and kids so much that he always talked about them positively and proudly. I remember him advising me to spend more time with my young kids as time flies by so quickly. My deepest condolences to his family. Eric will be truly missed.

Prayers for Eric´s family and friends at this time of loss. I have so many great memories of Eric: hallway encounters that turned into major catch-up sessions on his kids´ latest accomplishments, training together for a marathon where he had the ingenious idea to stage a bike so we could each push ourselves while staying in contact over the 2-3 hours, and plenty of work projects where he always brought his A game and delivered results. Always positive, kind, self-deprecating, and genuinely interested in others. Loved him and will miss him!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Eric and I worked together at Corning for many years. Eric was the type if he saw you, he'd stop you and ask how you were doing.
