Henry Evans Obituary

Henry Evans

Henry Clay Evans, 74, of Hickory, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

Born on December 31, 1950, in Cherokee County, N.C., Clay was the son of the late Gay B. Evans and Willa Mae Thompson Evans. Clay loved spending time with his family, being outdoors working or ginseng hunting, and browsing flea markets with his wife on Sundays. He was loved by his family and community alike and will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by Marvin and Maxine Evans, Ernie and Debbie Evans, David Bell, and Cookie Evans.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Rose Ann Watson Evans; daughter, Loretta Ann Evans; son, Henry Dale Evans and Haley Young; granddaughter, Brooke Andrae; great-grandchildren, Ashton Andrae, Caroline Andrae, Remi Young, River Young. Others left to cherish include brothers, Paul and Lisa Evans, Charles Evans; sisters, Mary Bell, Patsy and Curnis Wilson, Margaret and Harold Mashburn, Virginia and Rodney Wood; sister-in-law, Kathy Watson and Johnny Brank. Clay additionally has a generous number of nieces, nephews, and cousins with a special thanks and fondness for Matthew and Susan Evans.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Catawba Funeral Home on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Jeff Brown officiating. Burial will follow the service at Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 to 1 p.m.

What a loss. Clay did a lot of work for me and i always enjoyed talking to him.He was absolutely the hardest working man ive ever known.Hes going to be greatly missed by all who knew him.RIP CLAY EVANS

I'm so very sorry to hear about Clay. He was such a hard worker and did beautiful work. I was thinking about him the other day because he loved muscadines and I wondered if he wanted to come get some. Sending my heartfelt condolences out to his family.
