Henry Greenfield, 82, passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at his residence.
Born Feb. 8, 1940, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Abraham and Yetta (Isgar) Greenfield.
Henry is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Mandy and her husband, Matt Fassler; daughter, Jarah; daughter, Liza and her fiancé, Kéven Harvey; grandsons, Gabriel and Ezra Fassler and Isaac Greenfield; and Henry's brother, Arthur Greenfield.
Henry was a novelist, poet and short-fiction writer, an accomplished bridge player, a beloved high school English teacher, a sailboat enthusiast, a dog-lover, an inventive cook, and an endlessly entertaining and wise grandfather to his three beloved grandsons.
A graveside service was held at Catawba Memorial Park Monday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. Due to the impacts of Hurricane Ian, there was a delay of the obit being published in the paper.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henry's honor to The Humane Society of Catawba County, www.catawbahumane.org.

I met Henry four years ago when I joined his writer's group. I learned much from him and we became friends. I will miss his skill and humor. He encouraged me every time we met and I shall always remember him. I miss Henry.

i was a pertner of henrys many times and i managed the conover bridge club and he truly was supportive to the club we will miss his humor and bridge playing kept meaning to buy one of his books he was so proud of them as he should of been to linda and family my sympathy memories will be shared for a long time im sure

Graham and I enjoyed getting to know Henry during our local bridge games. He was a delightful man and a great bridge player. We send our condolences to his family. Henry will be missed.
