Hubert "Hubie" Marvin Brooks, 96, of Hickory, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
Born December 17, 1928, in Burke County, he was the son of the late Forest E. Brooks and Blanche M. Peeler Brooks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Betty Jean Revels Brooks; his son, Hubert "Coach" Gene Brooks; and two brothers, Dennis and Dean Brooks.
Hubie was a faithful Christian, prayer warrior, and member of Winkler's Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He loved his community and did all he could to make it better. Hubert was a Long View Alderman and a member of the Long View Lions Club. He never met a stranger and could find humor in every moment.
An avid golfer, Hubie belonged to Brushy Mountain Golf Club for many years. He also enjoyed fishing. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his son, David Alan Brooks (Linda); daughter-in-law, Sherry Brooks; granddaughters, Carmen Brooks, Karri Deptola (Stephen), and Gena Hoffman (Robert); five great-grandchildren, Wellington, Maxwell, Adelaide, Alexander, and Charlotte Hoffman; and his brother, Joe Brooks (Betty).
A celebration of Hubert's life will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Winkler's Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Deal officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 to 1:45 p.m., at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Winkler's Grove Baptist Church.
Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory is serving the Brooks family.

Mr Brooks was one of the best men I´ve ever met. He drove cars for the dealership I worked for. I also had the privilege of playing several rounds of golf with him. He taught me a lot about honesty and respect for. A great golfer but a better man. I know he´s loving his new home.
