He was very civically oriented, blessed with the gift of communicating and enjoyed being around others. He was very giving of his time but he truly enjoyed spending all the time he could with his family, whom he loved. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by two sons, James (Lee) Totty Jr. and his wife, Monica and William (Bill) Coleman Totty; four grandchildren: Nicole Camp, James Lee Totty III, Kara Totty and David Totty; two great-grandchildren: Carlie Hicks and Jaxson Camp; a brother, William Stewart Totty and wife, Mary; sister, Mary Ann Totty; three sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Belk Starnes and her husband, Dale, Mary Elizabeth Long, Sue Ellen Lampley and her husband, Sid; and many nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Jimmy's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Hickory with the Rev's. Larry Phillips and Joshua Barrett officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
