Joe Barringer Obituary

CONOVER - Joe Abernathy Barringer, 82, of Conover, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. Born Oct. 19, 1925, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Noah Pinkey Barringer and Cordia Jane Abernathy Barringer. Joe was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. In addition to his parents, two brothers, Henry and Harry Barringer, and three sisters, Rose Henley, Mary Kate Davis and Alean Detter, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Grace Bost Barringer of Carillon Assisted Living; son, Joel Barringer and wife, Martha, of Claremont; daughter, Jane Kilpatrick and husband, Kenny, of Huntsville, Ala.; sister, Nancy Burke and husband, Udean, of Newton; brother, Max Barringer and wife, Nancy, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three granddaughters, Kris Riley, Jennifer Hughes and Heather Sigmon; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Conover, with Pastor Michael Kane officiating. Burial will follow in Conover City Cemetery, with military graveside rites performed by American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Burke Mortuary in Newton, and at other times at the home of Kris and Darren Riley, 1027 Second Ave., NW, Conover, N.C. 28613.
