John "Eddie" Perry
January 14, 1944 - January 28, 2022
John "Eddie" Perry, 78, of Hickory, passed away Friday, Jan. 28, 2022, after a period of declining health. Eddie was born Jan. 14, 1944, to the late John Jackson Perry and Ollie Mae Chaney of Wingate.
In his early years Eddie played competitive baseball and enjoyed spending time outside. In his adult years Eddie was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing rounds with his brother, Don Perry, and friends. He also loved boating, water skiing, and spending summers on the lake with his family and friends.
Eddie began his career in 1964 working for Dickerson Corporation in commercial construction, building hospitals and working on other large projects. He began working in residential construction in the late 1960s before returning to his home town of Wingate, and starting his own custom home building business in the early 1970s. He became known as one of the premiere home builders in Union County and surrounding areas. Eddie was a master carpenter and soon became sought-after by prospective customers for his custom work and craftsmanship. He served as President of the Anson-Union Home Builders Association in 1977.
Eddie was devoted to his family and strived to give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant the world to him, something he often mentioned. He adored his children, Todd and Jill, and cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, lavishing them with unconditional love as they referred to him lovingly as "Popi."
Eddie was preceded in death by his father, John Jackson Perry; mother, Ollie Mae Chaney Perry; and brother, Donald C. Perry and wife, Edie Perry.
He is survived by his son, John Todd Perry and wife, Christina Perry; daughter, Jill Perry Stamey and husband, Johnny Stamey; grandchildren, Brittany Chaney, Tori Chiles, Alexandra Bosch, Christopher Perry, Allison Stamey, Parker Perry; and great-grandchildren, Addison Chiles, Ryland Chiles, AnnElise Bosch.
A graveside service will be held Saturday Feb. 5, at 2 p.m., at Wingate Cemetery in Wingate. Services will provided by Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory.
