John Wallace

Major John Henry Wallace, 87, of Prospect Heights, IL, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in Des Plaines, IL.

John was born in Hickory, NC, on December 13, 1936, to the late Henry and Mary Hilton Wallace. He was the oldest of six children. In 1954 he was in the first graduating class at Fred T. Foard High School and graduated from Tampa University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, including two tours in Vietnam, retiring in 1976 with the rank of Major. He then retired from Motorola.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Denise Bergen Wallace and his son, Jim Wallace.

John is survived by his wife, Irene Hsiah Wallace of the home; brother, Wayne Wallace (Susie); sisters, Marilyn Wallace, of Lewisville, NC, Vivian Wallace, Emily Teague (Wayne), and Lila Canipe (Ken) all of Hickory, NC; daughter-in-law, Myra Wallace; granddaughter, Jamie, of Houston, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews.

John will be inurned at Salisbury Military Cemetery at 11 a.m. on July 26, 2024.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
