Kermit D. South

DREXEL - Mr. Kermit David South, 85, of Drexel, died Monday, March 19, 2007, at Autumn Care of Drexel after a period of declining health. Mr. South was born May 25, 1921, in Watauga County to the late Hobart and Lily Brown South. He was a member of Drexel Memorial Baptist Church and retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture Co. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, MoGean Bumgarner South; a son, James South; four brothers; and two sisters. Surviving are a son, Benny J. South and wife, Clara, of Drexel; a daughter, Jayne S. Higgins and husband, Thomas, of Drexel; a daughter-in-law, Mary Powell South of Drexel; four brothers, Jack South of Lenoir, Bill South of Zionsville and Bruce South and Charles South of Mountain City, Tenn.; and two sisters, Marie Reece of Mountain City, Tenn., and Betty Iverson of Lenoir. Also surviving are four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service for Kermit David South will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at Drexel Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ted Pope officiating. Interment will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.Wednesday at Drexel Memorial Baptist Church.
