Kevin Lee Harris, 51, of Conover, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Carolina Caring in Newton following a courageous battle with colon cancer.

Born September 4, 1973, in Catawba County, he was the son of Leroy and Karen Propst Harris of Hickory.

Kevin was a compassionate person and had a love for all things nature. He enjoyed long walks and hiking in the woods. He was a graduate of St. Stephens High School and Catawba Valley Community College with degrees in Information Technology and Computer Programming. Kevin was a graduate of the Catawba County Chamber Leadership Catawba and the City of Hickory Neighborhood College. He was employed with the City of Hickory for 23 years in their IT Department and more recently with Sherrill Furniture Brands and Wanzl North America as Network Administrator. Kevin always had a strong relationship with God and was raised in the Lutheran faith. He later became a member of Corinth Reformed Church in Hickory and enjoyed volunteering with their Hope Garden program.

In addition to his parents, Kevin is survived by his uncles: Robert Propst, Jr (Regina) of Granite Falls, NC Darrell Propst (Lori) of Oak Island, NC; aunt, Vickie Rogers (Wayne) of Hickory; several cousins; and his beloved cat Kai. Preceding Kevin in death were both maternal and paternal grandparents and also two aunts.

The funeral service will be held Friday, August 29, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Cummings officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family gives sincere thanks to the wonderful staff of Carolina Caring for Kevin's care at the end. And special thanks to the staff at Freedom Integrative Wellness in Fort Mill, SC for his cancer treatments.
