Lonnie Davis Obituary

STATESVILLE - Mr. Lonnie P. Davis Sr., 76, of Statesville, entered into eternal rest on Feb. 19, 2010, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center following an accident. He was the son of Richard and Cordia D. Davis and a graduate of Haywood Chapel, Unity High School and Livingstone College in Salisbury. He was a retired educator of the Iredell Statesville Schools and owner of Davis & Mangum Mortuary in Statesville. He also served in the U.S. Army. He served as president of the Statesville NAACP for many years. Mr. Davis was a civic leader and well-respected businessman in North Carolina. Lonnie Paul was a member of Mount Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church, where he served in numerous capacities. He is survived by his wife, Florence B. Davis; and two sons, Lonnie Jr. and Shawn Davis; one brother, O.B. (Alberta) Davis; two sisters, Stella (Paul) Patterson and Mary Lois (Paul) Parker; and a host of other relatives and friends. Seven brothers and one sister preceded him in death. The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. at Mount Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church. The Rev. Patrick Tate will officiate. Family visitation will be held tonight, Friday, Feb. 26, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Services of comfort are entrusted to the care of Davis & Mangum Mortuary.

My Deepest Sympathies go out to the Davis family. Mr. Davis was the sweetest, kindest man I've met in North Carolina. When I heard of his passing a sense of deep sorrow came over me. A good man is gone but never forgotten. My family was in need and Mr. Davis provided a way.
