Marlene Elrod Obituary

Marlene Elrod VALDESE Mrs. Marlene Shondelmyer Elrod, 61, of Hickory, passed away June 18, 2012 at Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, following a period of declining health. Marlene was born on Aug. 19, 1950 in Westmoreland County, Pa., to the late Robert Shondelmyer and Betty Rupert Shondelmyer. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was employed as a manager at McDonalds of Icard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Pam Aultman; brother, Bobby Shondelmyer; and one of her pet Boston terriers, Priscilla. Survivors include her husband, Vann Elrod, of the home, daughters, Bobbi Yount, of Lenoir and Denise Tensley and her father, Fred Shupe, of Hickory; grandchildren, Kristy Yount, of Lenoir, Brandon Shupe, of Granite Falls, Ashley Howell and Dustin Tensley, of Hickory; and great-grandchild, Bryson Shupe. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, Mike Shondelmyer and Melissa, Ron Shondelmyer and Kathy, Joyce Killian and Donnie and Linda Shupe, all of Hickory; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, Al Young, of Hildebran; and her beloved Boston terrier, Pooter. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with the Rev. Edwin Elmore officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. Memorials may be sent to the family to assist with expenses to 3030 1st Ave NW, Hickory, NC 28601.
