Myrtle Curlee Obituary

Myrtle Helms Williams Curlee

October 27, 1925 - July 7, 2021

Myrtle Helms Williams Curlee, 95, of Hickory, peacefully passed into the arms of her loving Savior with her family by her side Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Pinecrest Senior Living in Hickory.

Born Oct. 27, 1925, in Marshville, she was the daughter of the late James Vance Helms and Hattie Parker Helms and the sibling to five brothers and four sisters. In addition to her parents and siblings she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jackson "J.C." Carlo Williams; and her second husband, Bruce Curlee.

Myrtle was a long time faithful member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, where she cherished her time with the Golden Bible Class. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, and sewing. Her love and concern for others was abundant as she was a constant selfless caregiver. Myrtle's love and devotion to her family was evident as she always modeled Christ's love in how she loved each of them.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Jackson "Jack" Carlo Williams Jr. and wife, Mary, of Gastonia; two daughters, Melanie Williams Maney of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Caryl Williams Burns and husband, Ronnie, of Hickory; grandchildren, Misty Charlene Greenway and husband, Sean C. Robinson, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Heather Marie Williams of Gastonia, Joshua Ryan Burns of Hickory, and Brittany Burns Cummings and husband, Graeme, of Hickory, Nicholas Cameron Maney and wife, Lauren, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and great-grandchildren, Palmer Grae Cummings of Hickory, and Lorelei Jade Maney of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, July 17, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Monica Childers officiating. The family will visit with friends in the church parlor, following the service. A private graveside interment service will be held at Forest Lawn West Funeral, Cremation Service & Cemetery in Charlotte, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 52 16th Ave. N.W., Hickory, N.C. 28601; or Carolina Caring, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658, whom the family would like to thank for their compassionate care during this time.

She was such a dear sweet Person and such a joy to know! John and I loved each visit and phone visits too! Married to dear Bruce, my cousin, we stayed with her for my LRU reunion and enjoyed her fresh peach cobbler for dessert and also for breakfast before going to our church services-great memories!
