Patsy Jean Pitts
August 13, 1945 - April 28, 2024
Patsy Jean Teague Pitts, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, following a lengthy illness. She was 78.
Born August 13, 1945, Jean was the daughter of the late Fate McCoy Teague and Grace Burns Teague. She was a graduate of Fred T. Foard High School and Glenn's Secretarial and Business School of Hickory.
A stalwart employee, Jean served Superior Cable, Siecor Corporation, and Corning in the roles of Inside Sales and Quotation Specialist, Supervisor of Building Services, and Manager of Trade Shows and Exhibits. Following her retirement from Corning, she served both Catawba Country Club as the Marketing and Membership Director as well as The Chamber of Catawba County as the Visitor Center Manager beginning in 2006.
As a pillar of the community, Jean was a lifelong member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where she led and served on numerous committees, including Sunday School teacher, Church Council, Altar Guild, and Evangelism committees. In addition, she was a charter member of the Catawba County Republican Women's Club and founder and president of the Mountain View Recreation Center. Jean was also appointed by Governor Beverly Perdue as a board member of the Selective Service System for North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband Carl Pitts and son, Grant Pitts. Jean is survived by her children Scott (Angie) Pitts of Sylva, NC, and Leigh (Matt) Smith of Gastonia, NC; along with grandsons Jack and Luke and granddaughters Annie and Ella. Jean is also survived by Roger Massey of Hickory who is a beloved companion and friend.
Receiving of family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 4 p.m. Visitation and funeral service will be held at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hickory, NC. The family will hold a private interment at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hickory, The Humane Society of Catawba County, and the Hickory Soup Kitchen.
