Pete Summers Obituary

Pete Summers VICKSBURG, Miss. Pete Michael Summers, 73, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Vicksburg Promise Hospital. A resident of Vicksburg since 1965, he was born in Burlington, N.C. and was the son of the late Pete S. Summers and Mabel Kinney Summers. Mr. Summers was a graduate of Hickory High School and attended Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, later serving in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from International Paper Company with 32½years of service. He coached Dixie Youth Baseball and Grey Y Football. He attended Westminster Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley W. Summers; a daughter, Terisa Cochran (David), of Vicksburg; two sons, Tim Summers, of Jackson, Miss., and Ken Summers (Judi), of Martinez, Ga.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Miller, of Hickory, and friends, Melissa Wooten and family and Wendy Summers. Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Riles Funeral Home with Scott Reiber, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was held at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. Friday until the service. Pallbearers were Timothy Summers, Jr., Austin Summers, Brian Hall, Clayton Cochran, Kyle McCaskill and Johnny Kaiser. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Jody Wilson, Christie Hale and the staff of Gilbert's Home Health.
