Rhonda Mayberry Obituary

Rhonda McCaslin Mayberry

September 3, 1946 - July 31, 2025

Rhonda McCaslin Mayberry, age 78, of Claremont, N.C., passed away peacefully in her sleep at Champions Assisted Living in Wilmington, N.C., following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Rhonda was born in Newton, N.C., to the late Emmett Taylor McCaslin and Pauline Brooks McCaslin.

Rhonda graduated from Newton-Conover High School, Class of 1964, and studied at Appalachian Teachers College before marrying the love of her life, Jimmy Mayberry. Rhonda was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Newton, where she and her husband married. Rhonda and Jimmy lived in Key West, Fla., before Jimmy, who was serving in the Navy, was transferred to Norfolk, Va., where their first child, a daughter, Lisa, was born. Following Jimmy's discharge from the Navy, they moved back to Newton and had a son, Keith, and a daughter, Kimberly.

Rhonda went back to school at Catawba Valley Technical College as her children got older, and studied Computer Programming. She retired from Hanes Converting, having worked for over 40 years as a Financial Analyst and Computer Programmer. Rhonda won the President's Award for Performance Excellence and Contribution to Overall Company Goals in 1991 and considered her work a very important part of her life.

An avid bridge player, Rhonda started a bridge club and passionately enjoyed her bridge club and all of its members for over 40 years. She cherished time with her family, her husband of 50 years, Jimmy, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved being at the beach and the family had many years of beach vacations dedicated to family time between N. Myrtle Beach, Ocean Isle Beach and finally Carolina Beach.

Rhonda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jimmy; her brother, Roy Keith McCaslin; brothers-in-law, Jerry Mayberry and Johnny Mayberry; and sister-in-law, Donna Mayberry.

Those left to cherish her memories are daughter, Lisa Conklin (Dean); son, Keith Mayberry (Lori) and daughter Kimberly Huene (Jamie); grandchildren, Brandon Mayberry, Brian Mayberry (Ashley), Madison Mayberry, Maggie Dewyea (Leyton), Joseph Jackson, Macey Huene; step-grandson, James Hueue, and great-grandchildren, Leighton Mayberry, Scarlett Jackson and step-great-grandson, Asher Dewyea. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Linda Mayberry, Vickey Mayberry, Kathy Esposito; brother-in-law, John Shook, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to all of her caregivers at Champions Assisted Living in Wilmington, who allowed her to enjoy the last years of her life with dignity and respect.

A memorial service to celebrate Rhonda's life will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Jason Dillingham will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at Bennett Funeral Service.
