Scott Sills Obituary

Scott Mauney Sills

October 20, 1969 - November 14, 2024

Scott Mauney Sills, of Hickory, NC,, passed away on November 14, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center, in Winston-Salem, following a brief but courageous battle against Stage 4 stomach cancer.

Scott was born on October 20, 1969, in Hickory, NC, the son of Ernest Karl Sills and the late Donnis Mauney Sills. Throughout his life, Scott had a love of nature and was a gifted snow and water skier, conquering many of the slopes out West alongside his wife, Angelia. As the couple's family grew, he became an avid mountain biker and loved barreling down the trails with his wife and kids. Growing up, his fondness for the outdoors helped fuel his desire to earn his Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America, a feat later achieved by his son Mason, and making them the first Father-Son Eagle Scouts from Troop 250 at St. Luke's United Methodist. His quick wit and sense of humor were hallmarks of Scott's personality and live on through his daughter, Sydney.

Blessed with a keen intellect, Scott was a 1988 graduate of Hickory High School and received his BA from Wingate College in 1992. His studies at Wingate ignited his entrepreneurial spirit, leading to the formation of his family-owned business, Sills Tree Service, which he successfully operated with his wife and son.

Scott is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 27 years, Angelia Huffman Sills, son, Mason Yates Sills, and daughter Sydney Morgan Sills. In addition, he is survived by his father, Ernest "Ernie" Sills (Cindy), of Hickory, NC; older brother, Ernest Karl "Karty" Sills, Jr. (Angie); and two nieces, of Edgewater, FL; younger brother, Cameron Lynn Sills (Jennifer); and several nephews and nieces of Cocoa, FL.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, in Hickory, NC and will be officiated by Pastors Paul Christy and Amy Spivey. A reception will follow in the church's Family Life Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials to be made to Boy Scout Troop 250 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

Scott was a good friend of my brother and that is how I met him back in the early nineties. Scott was always nice, in a great mood and interesting. I am saddened to learn of his passing and I want the family to know that I am thinking about and praying for them during this difficult time. God bless.
