Sheila Auten Obituary

Sheila Annette Auten

December 18, 1946 - June 6, 2023

Sheila Annette Auten, 76, of Hickory, N.C., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Carolina Caring.

Sheila was born on December 17, 1946 to Naomi Ruth Shuford and Eskridge E. Pruitt of Hickory, N.C. After graduating from Fred T. Foard, she attended Central Piedmont Community College studying commercial art and advertising; the field she worked in her whole life. Sheila was an excellent artist and photographer.

She and her husband, Kenneth R. Auten were married 20 years. They were former members of Macedonia Pentecostal Holiness Church where they created a Historical Video celebrating the church's 100th year anniversary. They were also instrumental in starting a church library.

Sheila is survived by her husband, Kenneth R. Auten; sister, Donna Harris and husband Lath; brother, Randy Pruitt and wife Donna; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and two stepchildren, Amy Smith and husband Mark, Kevin Auten and wife Suzanne.

She loved her furbaby, Ninja, who preceded her in death and Houdini, who loves her still.

Sheila was very outgoing, enjoyed people and conversations, playing Scrabble, and shopping on-line when no longer to go to yard sales for treasures.

A private family service will be held at Bass-Smith Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers or food, donations may be made to the Catawba Valley Humane Society.

Bass-Smith Funeral Home is serving the Auten family.
