Sonny Hicks NEWTON Sonny Lee Hicks, 62 of Newton, NC died Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at the Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born October 26, 1948 in Avery Co., NC, he was the son of Winnie Stanley Hicks of Hickory and the late Odas Lee Hicks. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Hicks and a daughter, Rhonda Hicks. Sonny enjoyed old trucks and cars, being outside, NFL - football, Nascar and the simple life. He was loving and kind. Survivors include his mother, Winnie Stanley Hicks of Hickory; son, Tracey Hyler of Spruce Pine, NC; daughter, Linda Wright of Spruce Pine, NC; brothers, Harold Hicks of Virginia, Ricky Hicks of South Carolina and Michael Hicks of New Jersey; sisters:, Pat Hedrick of Claremont, NC, Kathy Davis of South Carolina, Donna Smith of Conover and Cindy Garrett of Hickory; grandchildren, Sarah Wright and Tyler Wright of Spruce Pine, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel in Newton. The Rev. Bobby Langston will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
