Tammy Abernethy Gilbert, 64, of Hickory passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024 at her residence.
She was born January 2, 1960 in Burke County to the late Boyd and Gladys Miller Abernethy. Tammy was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church MS and worked as the Director of Human Resources at Guardian Home Health. She enjoyed reading, LOVED going to the beach, watching basketball (especially the NC Tar Heels - GO HEELS!), enjoyed crafting and being crafty, loved giraffes and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Tony Abernethy; and sisters, Brenda Taylor and Linda Abernethy.
Those left to cherish her memory are, husband of 38 years, Charles Douglas "Doug" Gilbert of the home; daughters, Amber Gersch and husband Carl of Hickory, Chelsey Houston and husband Taylor of Murray, KY, Kelly Schaeffer and husband Blake of Cary; brother, Dale Abernethy and wife Alice of Granite Falls; grandchildren: Jacob Gersch, Hayden Schaeffer, Clara Schaeffer, Charlie Gersch, Kane Houston, Daniel Gersch, and Kallie Houston.
A service to celebrate Tammy's life will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 1 p.m. at St. Stephens Lutheran Church MS 2304 Springs Road NE, Hickory. Rev. David Ziehr will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt, Calvary Lutheran Church Cemetery in Claremont. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at St. Stephens Lutheran Church MS. Those serving as pallbearers are Caleb Abernethy, Jeremy Abernethy, Carl Gersch, Taylor Houston, Blake Schaeffer and Steve Norton.
Memorials may be made to Duke Cancer Center, 20 Duke Medicine Circle, Durham, NC 27710.

Hey dale, this is Tammy braswell, my family rented from your mom and dads in the late 60s early 70s. She was Tammy A and I was tammy B. When it was time for her to come home your mom Gladys would come out and yell tammmmmy nadine. The world was such a better place with her in it. Love Tammy B
