Thomas Warren Spurling passed away on December 14, 2024, in Belwood, NC, after a brave battle with ALS.

Tom was born on August 12, 1949, at Edwards' Clinic in Toluca, NC, to Marjorie Jane Mitchem Spurling and the late Warren Franklin Spurling.

He was married to Marsha Gutyar Spurling for 50 years and was a devoted father to Scott Spurling (Dawn), Leslie Webb (Derek), and Myra Spurling Juban (Matt). Tom was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Thomas Spurling, whose memory he held close to his heart. Tom leaves behind a legacy through his thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He graduated from Burns-Polkville High School and Gardner Webb College. He retired as Director of Environmental Health from Catawba County in 2002 and concluded his career with the NC Department of Natural Resources in 2015. He was deeply involved in the community, serving on the Cleveland County Planning Board, Cleveland County Board of Health, Isothermal Planning Board, and the Belwood Town Council. He was a Councilman for Boy Scout Troop 413 and an active member of Saint Peter's Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and Church Lay Leader. He was also an active member of the Methodist Men.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 1 p.m., at St. Peter's Methodist Church, with the Dr. David Sain and Rev. Brian Elwell officiating. The family will host a reception following the service in the church hut.

Burial will be in the St. Peter's Methodist Church Cemetery.
