Kay Green Obituary
Kay Virginia (Leisenring) Green, at the age of 89, peacefully passed away on February 28, 2025, at St. Therese Care Home in Joshua Tree. Born on September 20, 1935, in York, Pennsylvania, Kay lived a life dedicated to family, service, and community.
Kay was married to Louis V. Green, Jr. for 67 years until his passing. Together, they built a loving family and raised six children: Karen (Steven) Howes of Twentynine Palms, Kathy (John) Ferguson of Twentynine Palms, Vance (Angela) Green of Charlestown, Rhode Island, Kelly Green (Bob Austin) of Atascadero, Kimba (Joao) Green Martins of Frederick, Maryland, and Michael (Lyn) Green of Virginia Beach, Virginia, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as dozens of nieces and nephews, round out the Green extended family.
As a devoted Navy wife for 33 years, Kay embraced the challenges and rewards of military life with grace. In addition to raising six children, Kay served as ambassador coordinator for the Navy District in Washington, D.C., providing support to military families. Her involvement extended to organizations such as the SNCO Wives Club and the Arlington Ladies, where she offered comfort and respect to those who had served their country. She was chosen as "Woman of the Year" and "Valentine Queen" while in Virginia.
Beyond her contributions to the military community and her commitment to an active family of eight, Kay was deeply engaged in civic organizations. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Twentynine Palms, Groton, Connecticut, Kailua, Hawaii, Bethesda, Maryland, Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, and Miami, Florida. She served as either president or vice president of every branch she joined.
After retirement, Kay's dedication to communities continued in Homestead, Florida where she served as president, vice president and luncheon coordinator of New Neighbors, Inc., helping others feel welcome in new communities.
Kay and Lou unfortunately lost their home in Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and relocated to Twentynine Palms. There she explored a passion for quilting with her daughters Karen and Kathy. Quilting reflected both her creativity and her generosity as many of her quilts were donated to local veteran's hospitals and women's shelters.
Kay's legacy is one of dedication - to her family, her country's service members, and the many communities she touched throughout her life. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
