Laura Newman-Jones Obituary
She attended Yucca Valley High School, graduating in 1982. A dynamic and full-of-life friend to all, she was a star athlete in volleyball, basketball and softball varsity sports.
In the late '80s she began her powerful role as the youth pastor at Calvary Chapel Palm Springs, then transitioned to Living Stream/Joshua Springs Calvary Chapel, Yucca Valley, where she served for six years.
Laura and her husband, Ron, were married for 17 years, from Sept. 19, 2008, and knew each other for a total of 22 years. Together they traveled the world doing missions work and pursuing God's purpose in their lives.
She loved ALL animals and cared for a sulcata tortoise, several dogs, three snakes, four loaded large fish tanks and a bearded dragon named Puppy!
Her unconditional love for people, especially the youth and the hurting, was awe-inspiring. She deeply loved Jesus! She exuded His true and genuine love, and strove for others to experience His glory, helping others to grasp a true understanding of the believer's place with Christ.
This incredible wife, sister, auntie, cousin and best friend to so many has left an impact that will be felt for generations.
Laura died of metastatic melanoma April 11, 2025, in Los Angeles. She was 60 years old.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Judith Newman, and her father, Paul Newman.
Laura is survived by her husband, Ron Jones, and her brothers, Mark Newman and Matthew Newman and their families.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Joshua Springs Calvary Chapel, 57373 Joshua Lane, Yucca Valley.
