Lois Eby Obituary

FREMONT, Indiana - Lois Jean Eby, 89, of Fremont, Indiana, and formerly of Montgomery, Michigan, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital in Angola, Indiana. Born March 3, 1926, in Detroit (Redford), Michigan, she was the daughter of Harvey and Florence (Busha) Vetal. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1944 and from Michigan State Normal College (Eastern Michigan University) in 1948 with a degree in Physical Education, Health and Recreation. She met her husband, Don, while in college. Don and Lois were married on July 1, 1949, in Plymouth, Michigan, and were together 60 years before Don's death in 2009.

Lois taught physical education in Flat Rock and Whitehall, Michigan, before the family moved to Montgomery, Michigan. She then taught physical education and health at Camden-Frontier Schools for over 30 years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma of Hillsdale County, the Michigan Education Association-Retired, and the Steuben County Extension Club. Lois and Don lived on a farm in the Montgomery area for over 50 years. They enjoyed camping and camped in every state except Hawaii. She also enjoyed spending time with her 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as gardening, sewing, crafting, cooking, and baking.

Survivors include her four children: Craig (Rachel) Eby of Tokyo, Japan, Dean Eby of Coldwater, Michigan, Brent (Brenda) Eby of Fremont, Indiana, and Wendy (Ken) Wilcox of Rochester, Minnesota; ten grandchildren, Linnea (Tom) McGlothlin, Caleb (Amy) Eby, Victor Eby, Eric Eby, Brooke (Brian) Kerspilo, Jared Eby, Jeremy (Alicia) Wilcox, Tara Wilcox, Andrew Wilcox, and Bryce Wilcox; seven great-grandchildren: Isabel, Jonas, Leland, and Kaden Wilcox, Enoch and Micah Eby, and Johnathon Kerspilo; her two brothers, Gordon (Lois) Vetal of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Donald (Delores) Vetal of Cantonville, Maryland; two sisters-in-law, Darlene (Billy) Melvin and Dorothy Jedele, both of Englewood, Florida, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Ethan Eby; sister-in-law, Katherine Smell; and two brothers-in-law, Walter Smell and Richard Jedele.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Reading with Pastor Don Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Camden Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled Wednesday from 4:00–8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Gamma Chapter DKG Scholarship Fund or the Camden-Frontier Physical Education Department.

To all the Eby kids.....

Judy and I were saddened to learn of Lois's passing. Your parents were probably two of the most influential people in my life while I was growing up in Michigan and attending school. They were very instrumental in me attending Hillsdale College, and after I met Judy and we married, we became great friends with the total Eby family. We visited them many times when we would return to Michigan and they traveled to Alaska with family to visit us in Fairbanks. They were a part of our family.
We send our thoughts and good wishes to the whole Eby family during this time of loss and will cherish our fond memories of adventures with the Eby family forever.
