Darla Toone Obituary

Darla was born on 29 March 1939, to parents Marion Leroy and Luella Rae Watson Pitcher. She

was welcomed by two sisters, Bonnie Rae and Ellen Jalaine Pitcher. She was later joined by a

brother David LaMar Pitcher and a sister Alice Rebecca Pitcher. She grew up in Smithfield Utah,

attended Summit elementary school, Smithfield Junior high school and graduated from North

Cache high school in May of 1957. She was a farmer's daughter, so she learned to work hard,

doing many jobs from herding cows to leading or driving the work horses. She had a pony

named Tony who she truly loved. At the age of five her mother sat her down with a needle,

thread and a piece of checkered fabric and taught her how to make gathers. At age 11 she made

her first blouse with a collar which she wore all that summer. This was the start of her love for

sewing and quilt making.

She married Merlin Winberg in January 1958 and had 3 children, Marilyn, David and Michael.

She lived in River Heights and Millville. She worked at Gates, Jensen and warren

Ophthalmologists and then as a secretary to the superintendent of the Cache County schools and

at Providence elementary school.

After a divorce, she married Lynn Toone and moved to Cove, Utah. She then went to work as an

Ophthalmic Technician for Doctor Gary Jones. She continued to enjoy many crafts, including

sewing, piece quilting, crocheting and toll painting. In 1991 they moved to North Logan then in

1993, built another house in North Logan. She expanded her hobbies to include machine

embroidery and was the first person in Cache Valley to have a Bernina 180 embroidery sewing

machine. She then taught the 180 machine course and the digitizing software course at Stylish

Fabrics. She continued to upgrade to the newest technology and created many beautiful projects

that she shared with her family, friends and neighbors.

Her many church callings included producing the ward bulletin, Relief Society secretary, Home -

making committee and primary teacher.

She dearly Loves her three children Marilyn Hansen (Steve), David Winberg (Alice), and

Michael John Winberg (deceased), Her grandchildren and great grandchildren include Kimberly

Thompson (Shawn), Colton (Afton), Allyssa (G G Grandson Asher) and Tianna, Danielle Stock

(Randon, Taylee, Addison, Kaden), Tyler Hansen (Lacie) (Austin, Taiton, Traeson, Jaxon,

McKinlie), Brianna Buppert (Doran) (Henry, Finn, John, Delaney), Brooke Hancock (Michael)
