Lorin Low Obituary

Lorin Budd Low, 91, passed away July 3, 2011, at Cache Valley Assisted Living in Providence, Utah.
Budd was born March 27, 1920, in Smithfield, to Lorin and Vilate Low. He was the second of five children. Budd grew up in Smithfield. He attended schools in Smithfield and Richmond where he was active in sports.
Budd served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Central States. He then later served in the Air Force during World War II. He was stationed in Tinian. During this time, he flew 13 bombing missions on a B-29. He has stayed close to his crew, and they have gotten together several times over the years.
Budd met his dear wife, Mada Chugg, dancing at the Dansante building in Logan. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on March 20, 1946. They had four sons and one daughter.
Budd lived in Smithfield most of his life, where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years. He was always very active in the LDS Church, where he served in various leadership positions. He served as bishop, in the bishopric, and as ward clerk for 18 years. He also served as high councilman in the stake. He spent eight years serving on the Smithfield City Council. Budd retired from the Postal Service in February 1980.
Budd and Mada spent their retirement years going north in the summer and south in the winter. They spent their summers in Star Valley, Wyo., and winters in St. George. In May 1997, they sold their cabin in Star Valley and moved back to Smithfield.
Through the years, Budd has enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, golfing, dancing with Mada and watching the Jazz games.
He is survived by four sons and one daughter, Gerald L. (Andrea) Low of Logan, Brad C. (Kriste) Low of North Logan, Nyla J. (Wayne) Benson of Smithfield, Roger D. (Mona) Low of Perry City and Brent J. (Tammy) of South Jordan; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ned Low of Smithfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; as well as one brother and two sisters, Charles, Ellen (infant) and Afton Woodruff.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, in the Smithfield 1st Ward chapel, 200 S. 100 West, Smithfield, with Bishop Pete Krusi conducting. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 S. Main, Smithfield, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Interment will be in the Smithfield City cemetery.

We grew up in the Second Ward with your Dad and Mother, We loved them, and send our sympathy and love at this time of sadness. Budd served in the Bishopric with my Dad Doane Chambers, LeGrand Gunnell, and Dean Bischoff. They were very close, and I thought I was related to them, as our families did many things together. What wonderful parents you had. Janet Chambers and Gib Richardson Burley Id.
