Nolan Johnson Obituary

Nolan David Johnson
March 31, 1952 - September 24, 2018
Nolan David Johnson, formerly of Smithfield, Utah; passed away at Torrance Memorial Hospital on Sept. 24, 2018, from complications following surgery.
Nolan was born March 31, 1952, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Blaylock and Reba Tew Johnson. He was the sixth of 10 children, and his childhood was spent with his siblings as friends, playmates and cohorts in his many adventures. He loved the farm life and family vacations, particularly to the Bechler wilderness area of Yellowstone. While in Idaho, he lived in both Shelley and Blackfoot.
In 1963, the family moved to Smithfield, Utah. He made many friends there, graduating from Sky View High School in 1970, where he was involved in sports and student government. In March of 1971, he was called to serve a mission for the LDS Church to the Great Australia West Mission. When he returned, he attended Utah State University where he became actively involved in leadership. He served as ASUSU Executive Vice President in 1974-75 and as ASUSU President in 1975-76. He was honored as USU's "Robins Man of the Year" in 1976.
He was employed by Western Airlines and later Delta Airlines. The years he worked there allowed him to experience and visit many parts of the world and make lifelong friendships. He was also founder of Crosby Pacific Computers, where his commitment to clients was the foundation of his business. He lived for several years in Hawaii on the "Bon Vivant," a sailboat. It was there he gained an appreciation of the islands and also developed a deep love of sailing. He sailed on an epic adventure from Micronesia to the Marquesas Islands, navigating this journey by sextant. He made his home for many years in Redondo Beach, California.
Nolan is survived by eight siblings: Steven (Amy), Honeyville, Utah; Brent (Marilyn), Ogden, Utah; Sheryl Roper, North Logan, Utah; Lynette (Dave) Dickey, Millville, Utah; Bryce (Robyn), Boise, Idaho; Rosemary (Clair) Christiansen, Newton, Utah; Bryan (Debbie), Orem, Utah; Ranae (Gary) Wyatt, Emporia, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marilyn Beck and brothers-in-law Spencer Roper and Darrell Beck. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a myriad of friends from every corner of the world.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. in the Sunburst Lounge, USU Taggart Student Center. All who have been touched by Nolan are invited to attend and celebrate his remarkable life.

I met Nolan while we both served missions together in Australia. We became good friends. Nolan was a kind, happy, and loving individual. We continued our friendship along with other mutual missionary companions when returning home to Utah. Unfortunately, not too many years later we lost track of Nolan. I'm saddened to finally find him, only too late to renew our friendship in this life. I look forward to greeting you again on the other side one day, my friend. You are loved by so many!

I was saddened to learn that Nolan had passed in the Utah State University Magazine. He was remarkable, talented person when I knew him in college, full of kindness and optimism, and a good friend, and I'm certain he remained that way through his entire life. My deepest condolences to the family, and especially Bryce and Robin who shared a major part of Nolan's life when I knew him.
