Andrew Anderson Obituary

Andrew Gordon Anderson, 55, of Paradise, died Friday at Feather River Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Andrew was a member of the California Bar, having graduated from Cal-Northern School of Law in Chico. After training with a firm in Sacramento, he opened his own successful practice in Chico in the early 1990's, assisting hundreds of Butte County residents with workers' compensation cases.

He was born Feb. 13, 1954, in Powers Lake, N.D., but grew up in Southern California and graduated from San Clemente High School in 1972.

He was an avid fisherman and had been since he was a teenager, working on fishing boats from Dana Point and diving for abalone in the Pacific Ocean. He proudly owned the boat The Outlaw for more than 10 years, and loved taking friends and family for weekend expeditions because he always knew where to find the fish.

Andrew rescued and adopted many animals, including dogs, cats and a pony, which became his beloved pets.

He enjoyed golfing, panning for gold in the Feather River and Butte Creek, loved swimming and gardening. He grew large and fragrant roses and other colorful flowers that he displayed in his home and shared with others. He was an accomplished cook and baker who made perfect cookies, and enjoyed hosting company in his Paradise home.

Andrew is much loved by his family and friends who will remember his kind, generous nature and his warm and loving heart. He wanted to care for and help everyone, and loved spending time with children, especially his nephews and nieces. He was a natural entertainer who was quick with a smile, a funny story or a practical joke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Gordon and Mrs. Barbara Anderson. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Alex Hammond of Pullman, Wash., his brothers and sister-in-law Geoffrey and Clayton and Ioani of Paradise, his sister Lorena of South Carolina, three nephews, Alec Hammond and Tavy and Pelep Anderson, and four nieces, Julie Anderson, Kristin Anderson, Elizabeth Hammond and Lehrina Coker.

A graveside service will be held at Paradise Cemetery on Friday, April 24, 2009 at 1:00p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an animal rescue charity of your choice in care of Newton-Bracewell Funeral Homes who handled the arrangements. Dear Geoffrey, Clayton, Barbara, and Lorena,
Just like your father, my beloved "Doc", Anrew was always so willing to help others, including me. Although always "professional", his caring concern and generous nature always came through. He was a tremendous help to me when I needed it most.
He was loved and respected by many, and will be missed.
My love and condolences to you and your families.
Sincerely, Becki Jackson
