Kay Sapita Obituary

Kay Sapita passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, October 11th, 2018, at the age of 77.

Kay was born August 11th, 1941, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Curtis John Andrew and Lucy Iona (Carle) Gibson. A graduate of Bartlesville College High School Class of 1959, Kay then received a Bachelor of Arts in Radio and Television from Marquette University in 1963. As a member of Delta Sigma Gamma, she was introduced to the love of her life on a blind date. Upon graduation, she worked for Marx Ad Agency in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, until she found her true love of raising her children and bringing beautiful music into the world. Kay retired to Douglas, Michigan in 2006 and developed many cherished friendships in the community.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, Robert (Bob) Sapita and her children and grandchildren, son Scott and Chris Sapita of Dayton, OH and their children Sam, Zach, and Abbey; daughter Diane and Tom Graebner of Lake Wylie, SC and their children Mary Ellen and Kathryn, son Stephen and Jodi Sapita of Sycamore, IL and their children Megan, Robbie, and Molly.

Kay was a devoted servant of the church through her volunteerism and gift of music. Her musical talents allowed her to serve as a school music teacher, choir director, and liturgist. She brought countless souls spiritually closer to the Lord through the sharing of her musical talents within parishes in Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Michigan. Her tireless devotion to her choirs mentored many others to develop their love of music and carry on her legacy. Her most recent gifts of music and service have been enjoyed by the parishioners of St. Peter Catholic Church in Douglas. She also served on the Planning Commission for Douglas and on the Boards of multiple non-profit organizations.

She enjoyed international travel with family and friends, conversing in many languages, quilting, reading, cooking, and sailing. Her greatest accomplishment however, was bringing joy and happiness to her eight grandchildren. To know Kay was to know love. She graced her husband, children, grandchildren, and friends with a true example of selfless love.

A special thank you to Hospice of Michigan, and the staff of Appledorn, and Resthaven of Holland, MI for their compassionate care and support.

Funeral Services for Kay will be held on Monday, October 29th at 11:00 am at St. Peter Catholic Church, 100 St. Peter Drive, Douglas, MI, with Rev. Fabio Garzon presiding. Friends may gather to meet the family on Sunday October 28th from 4-7pm at Dysktra Funeral Home, 520 Lake Street Saugatuck, MI.
