Kenneth Jay Etterbeek, age 87, of Holland died Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Appledorn North in Holland.
Ken was born in Zeeland, raised in Holland and graduated from Holland High School. He attended Hope College for two years before transferring to Michigan State and graduating in 1951. Ken was a member of Christ Memorial Church for many years where he served on the consistory as a deacon and elder. He was a life member of the Rotary Club of Holland. Ken served our country in the naval reserve. He enjoyed going to Michigan State football games, skiing, boating, playing tennis, watching his kids play tennis and was an active member of the Holland Tennis Patrons. Ken also enjoyed his retirement years in Vero Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife, O. Dawn (Diepenhorst) Etterbeek in 2006.
He is survived by his children, Susan and Henry DeJong of Holland, Sally and William Swets of Holland, Jeffrey and Leslie Etterbeek of Bloomfield Hills, MI and Jonathan and Laurilee Etterbeek of Grand Haven; grandchildren, Christian and Jessica DeJong, Adam DeJong, Borys and Alina Swets, Lindsey, Kristen, Elizabeth, and J.J. Etterbeek, Tatiana, Anastasia, Alexei Etterbeek; great grandchildren, Yager and Tristan; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Zych of Holland.
A funeral service will be 12 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Christ Memorial Church Chapel, 595 Graafschap Road in Holland, please use entrance D. Chaplain Jonathan Etterbeek and Reverend Bill Boersma will be officiating. Burial will be in Graafschap Cemetery.

My sympathy to your family. I was a first lady Rotarian and your father was especially welcoming to me. Your mother was the first person to mention Bible Study Fellowship to me. We were in Family Fare and she was so excited to been in the spring introduction session. I am so thankful to her as I thoroughly enjoyed my 7 year studies in BSF! You had sweet parents! Hugs!! We are Ken's next door neighbors at Macatawa. After we bought our house last year we enjoyed meeting him at the annual 4th of July parties, and chatting with his family during the past two summers.
