Christopher Finger

Christopher "Chris" Finger, born Feb. 10, 1952, was quite literally a man of many hats. He grew up in Cold Spring Harbor, New York, number three in a line of four boys, and was in as much mischief as he could find growing up in the '60s.

In his college years, he developed a love of insects that led to degrees from UGA and LSU. It was there, among the purple and gold, he met Ellen, the great love of his life. Together these two Yankees transplanted themselves to the small community of Labadieville, where they would live out the remainder of their years.

Christopher was an entomologist by trade and took great pride in his ability to identify any insect presented. He served the Louisiana sugarcane industry for many years as a biological technician at the USDA station in Houma, and as a crop consultant. He was a man of the land, could give the Latin name of any tree, and grow any crop the south Louisiana climate would allow. He was an avid hunter, a collector of mosquitoes and the most voracious of readers. He loved to learn and was always glad to impart knowledge to anyone who would listen. His "Long Island" accent and infectious laugh will be missed by many.

Christopher is survived by his children; daughter, Lydia Ingram and her husband, Tyler, son, Atticus Finger and his wife, Sara, and daughter, Mavis Daigle and her husband, Darrell; grandsons, Bowen Ingram and Luke Daigle; and brothers, William Finger, Timothy Finger and Thomas Finger.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Finger; and his parents William and Joyce Finger.

A gathering to honor Chris's life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to the Friends of the LSU Library.
