Words can not express the sorrow and shock I felt when my mother phoned to let me know that David had passed on. She was his cousin, Sharon Legendre. We would see him at family reunions and get togethers in Raceland, family weddings and so on. David was always the life of the party. He is now in a better place. My condolences go out to the Autin family and his immediate family. He will be missed!!!

I'm pretty shocked. I just heard the sad news today. I'm just a patient of Dr. Autin's who was referred to him by Dr. Francine Manual, our family doctor. I was to see him again shortly, on January 5, just an annual checkup. I last saw him in January 2011, a day or two after the death of physical fitness expert Jack LaLanne. I told him I heard about it on a radio show hosted by two comediennes whose names slipped my mind. "Walton and Johnson?" Dr. Autin asked. I said yes. Dr. Autin laughed and said he wished he'd heard that. I told him to just read the New York Times obit and think about how Walton and Johnson would handle it. Anyway, Dr. Autin had a good sense of humor, was very personable and friendly. He was about my age and we got along well. I very much regret that he passed away. May God bless him and let him retain in spirit the same friendly and humorous personality he had in this life.

I am deeply saddened and grieve the loss of my friend and classmate from LSU School of Medicine, New Orleans, Dr David Louis Autin. My memories of David are countless because each was unique, FUN, sometimes serious, always passionate, and bursting full of life. David did not know a moment that was not important or special in some large, or small way. His words and actions brought joy to my heart, a smile to my face, and wisdom to my life. I loved David and all he represented, toughness, enthusiasm, struggle and success. He was humble yet always important. He was a team player and a unique individual at the same time. Our times spent fighting the rigors of Medical School are in retrospect, some of the happiest times in my life. I will always cherish the feelings David brought into our encounters and I pray we will meet again, someday, someway by faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Good tidings you bring in your journey beyond.....

Your friend always,
Lloyd G Wickboldt MD (LSU 1974, 1978)

Dear family & friends of Dr. Autin. We had the honor of having him as our teenage daughter's physician this past Spring. He was such a wonderful, concerned, caring, funny, and entertaining individual. He was so good to explain all of her questions and after he performed her surgery he made sure she was okay well after the procedure. I'm so glad he thought that much about my daughter but I am sure he felt the same for all his patients. We are so fortunate to have had him as her physician. We hope good memories will carry you through this very difficult time. Sincerely, Bob, Linda & Kimiko Woodman

My family will always be so thankful that on that rainy day in Lafayette 16 years ago we found a for sale sign face down in the yard and decided to pick it up and call the phone number. Undecided to purchase the house I decided to cross the street and meet the neighbors, and the decision was made. The Autin family welcomed us in that day and was celebrating the end of another school year at Cathedral Carmel. There will never be enough words to explain the fun times and the friendship that has grown over the years as neighbors and friends. Our three boys have grown up in the Autin household and have more stories to tell of fun times with David and his family then a person could ever dream of. We will miss him dearly and are so thankful that he welcomed us into his life along with his family as a part of his family. The Autin children have served as friends and role models and I thank them for that. With great love and sorrow we love you all so much.
