John Tabor Obituary
John Jospeh Tabor, 80, a native of Choctaw and resident of Chackbay, died at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Chackbay, after a private viewing from 7:30 to 8 a.m. for immediate family only. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with military honors to follow in the cemetery.
He is survived by one son, Glenn "Pet" Tabor and wife, Linda; one daughter, Martha T. Cortez and fiance' Mark Faucheaux; four grandchildren, Cagney T. Schexnayder and husband, Aaron, Courtney Lee Delatte and husband, Kenny, Keith "K.J." Cortez Jr. and Tracie Tabor; one great-grandson, Odin Schexnayder; four sisters, Florence "Bea" Landry, Thelma Percle, Eunice Percle and Terry Becnel; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vergie Percle Tabor; one son, Elphege J. Tabor II; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elphege Tabor; one brother, Jessie Tabor; and daughter-in-law, Roberta Usea Tabor.
Mr. Tabor was a veteran of the Korean War, Lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Association, a member of the V.F.W. Post 5097 and a member of the American Legion Post. He served as a member of the Lafourche Parish Parish Democratic ESEC Committee, served as a member of the Lafourche Parish School Board from 1964-1970 and served as Commissioner of Lafourche Basin Levee District from 1985-1987. He was a Charter member of Chackbay Athletic Club, Charter member of Chackbay Jaycee Org. and a Charter member of Chackbay-Choctaw Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a lifetime member of Plumbers and Steamfitters of Local 60.
The family would like to give special thanks to his sitter, Roseanne Aillet and St. Joseph Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to St. Joseph Hospice of Bayou Region, LLC.
Thibodaux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
