Alexander Yokubaitis Obituary

Alexander Charles Yokubaitis II
1919-2015
Alexander Charles Yokubaitis II, of Crockett, Texas, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on January 31, 2015.
Alex was born May 21, 1919 in Sioux City, Iowa to Lithuanian immigrant parents, Agnes and Alexander Yokubaitis. A talented athlete and a gifted scholar, he attended St. Louis University on a football scholarship, graduating with a degree in Geophysics in 1941. He married his childhood sweetheart, Cecelia Frances Barron, in 1942. They started a family while living in various towns in Texas and Louisiana as Alex worked in the oil industry. In 1947, they settled down permanently in Houston, Texas where they raised their family of 6 boys and 2 girls.
Alex was a true pioneer in offshore oil exploration. Through his companies Offshore Exploration Group and Houston Geophysical, he was responsible for the discovery of many important oil fields along the Gulf Coast and in the Gulf of Mexico.
In 1990, Alex and Cecelia retired to Houston County Lake near Crockett, Texas, where they loved watching the sunset, taking boat rides, and hosting large family gatherings. They also enjoyed traveling to watch their grandchildren play sports. They were active members of St. Frances Catholic Church in Crockett.
In the years following Cecelia's death, Alex continued living his life with great appreciation and enthusiasm. He loved a tasty meal, a good ball game, and a loud thunderstorm. Alex never failed to end his day in prayer and devotion to our Lord and the Blessed Mother.
Alex's gentle humor and wisdom will be deeply missed by his eight children Ron, Roger, Sandy (Alex III), Dan, Mark, Nancy, Sally (Janacek), Jon, their spouses, 27 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. "Hey, hey, ho, ho!" Granddaddy, we love you every day and we will miss you every day.
A Scripture Service will be held Tuesday, February 3rd at 5:00 pm, followed by visitation and Rosary at St. Francis Catholic Church in Crockett, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 4th at 11:00 am at the church. Memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church or St. Thomas Catholic High School.
