It is so hard to believe that Alfred has been gone a year. I still think of him so often and recall his radiant smile. I especially thought of him recently when I reviewed my scrapbook of mementos from our junior high/senior high school days. Alfred as you may recall was one of our high school cheerleaders. Anyway, he lives on in my happy memories of many years ago and we were great friends for a very long time. He had lots of friends like me. I hope his family members are doing well and that you will celebrate his life on this one year anniversary. I am a widow so I know how great such a loss can be. Best wishes, Karen Collman

I was in JROTC at San Jacinto High School with Al. He was a great guy then, was destined to go places and I see that he did.
RIP Al.

Alfred was a long-time dear friend whom I met in junior high school. He had a magnificent smile and personality and was always full of interesting stories. I have missed seeing him in recent years but he has often been on my mind.
I extend my sympathies to all in his family. I was sad to not be able to attend the funeral because I'm recovering from surgery. Al left a wonderful legacy which you can all cherish for many years to come. I'm so glad he was part of my life.

My sincerest condolences to Mary, Michele, Amanda, Evan, Mercedes,Robert,George Farah, Tony Parada, Mateo, Camila, and the
entire Leal family.
I had the distinct honor and privilege to serve with Judge Leal on the County Court bench as a colleague, mentee and friend. As a fellow lawyer and Judge I was impressed with his energy and passion for justice and for service to the community.
On the bench he treated everyone who came before him with dignity and respect. He did so with an abiding faith in the rule of law and commitment to see that everyone got a fair shake.
His wit, mischievous laugh and smile, as well as his affable personality served him well on and off the bench as a role model and as a mentor to many other individuals who joined him as elected officials in his constant pursuit of serving our community and in improving education for our youth.
He and Mary inculcated these character traits into his children who will pass these on to his grandchildren. In them, his legacy, the Leal legacy of commitment and service to our community, will live on.

I have fond memories of Al at Univ. of Houston. He was a dear friend who I counted on to give me rides and help me with getting to places. He was always smiling and looked mischievous. I married his fraternity brother, Doug Vincent, and we continued in touch with Al and supported him at many political races. He was made for his positions as judge. He served his community with enthusiasm and honor. He will be missed. Rest in peace.

My condolences to the Leal family. Al was a great Democrat, a dedicated public servant and an Army vet. I would ask that we all take a moment of silences on 11/11, Veteran's Day. He was a proud Vet. He was a family man.
I got to know the Judge when I was Chair of the Harris County Democrat Party in the early 1980's. He attended every event we had.
He will be missed by so many. God be with him and with this "Yellow Dog Democrat.

Al was one of my pledge brothers. I enjoyed being around him and we became good friends. I had not seen him since I graduated and regret that we weren't able to get together as time surely does fly. My deepest condolences to his family.

Alfred was a Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity brother at the Univ of Houston who we all remember as fun loving with a strong interest in education. I have really missed him over the last few years as he started to "slow down". May he Rest In Peace.

Taking a moment to extend my condolences to Al Leal's family. Having something in common with Mr Leal, being native Houstonians, drove me to take a moment and extend my sincere condolences. May the peace and comfort that only the Lord can give, be with you.

My wife Linda and I send heartfelt condolences to Mary and the children and grandchildren. I, along with the Houston Bar and Texas State Bar, lost a good friend. Al was a pleasant friendly Judge, while taking his obligation to justice seriously. It was always a pleasure to be in his court. Both sides knew they would be treated fairly. Al had an impressive and handsome presence. I will miss my friend Al, Jerry

Condolences to Al's family. Al was a larger-than-life Texan who filled every room he entered with energy and smiles. Al loved Houston, and everyone loved Al, but he was a special friend to my family. When he first saw my daughter in the hospital, he immediately fell in father-like love with her. The world is now a duller place without Al's expansive personality. His loss will leave a huge gap not only in the lives of his family and friends but in all of Houston. Comparto su sentimientos.
