Amelia (Mickie) Vigil
McCunn
10/12/1931 - 09/02/2024
Amelia McCunn aka Mickie, as she was known to all, 92, of Houston, Texas, passed away on September 2, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Mickie was born on October 12, 1931 to John F. Solez and Celsa Buck in Riverton, Wyoming. Mickie had a hard childhood as both of her parents passed away when she was very young. Fortunately she was adopted by Nicholas and Pauline Vigil when she was 11 years old. These were the only grandparents we knew and they loved their adopted daughter. She grew up in Pueblo, Colorado where she met the love of her life, Jack McCunn. They were married in 1950 and enjoyed a wonderful life together. They were married for 66 years. They both had a love of fishing and took many excursions to Mexico to deep sea fish. They purchased a beach house in Treasure Island and also one on Grand Cayman Island. Mickie won a deep sea fishing tournament for marlin in Grand Cayman and also set a Texas state record for a tarpon. The family enjoyed many fun times, birthdays, and other milestones at both of the beach houses. Mickie was a wonderful fun mother. She always said that she grew up with us as she was a young mother. She was always involved in her son's activities from Indian Guides to Scouts as the best den mother ever. She was very talented and creative. Some of her hobbies were writing, painting, and making jewelry. She bought a kiln and used it to create all kinds of wonderful art. Mickie was an expert and flawless seamstress. She made clothes for everyone in the family including her daughter's Barbie dolls. She loved the opera and held second row season tickets to the Houston Opera for many years. She also had a career as a real estate agent for Gary Greene and eventually got her brokerage license. She made many lifetime friends that she met as a real estate agent. Mickie loved to cook and entertain and she was adept at both. Her parties were always first-rate with plenty of drink and outstanding food. And she was the life of the party. You rarely saw Mickie without a big smile on her face making everyone laugh. Mickie was predeceased by her parents, her adopted parents, her beloved husband Jack, and her precious grandson Jack McCunn III. She is survived by her three children, Jack McCunn Jr. (Doris), Paula Hatcher (Jimmy), and Scott McCunn (Theresa). She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Mickey McCunn (Crystle), Amelia Templeton (Joshua), Sarah Hatcher (Erik), and Nick Hatcher and great grandchildren Kade McCunn, Azalynn Belile, Alyce Templeton, Josephine Templeton, River Untersee, and Imogene Untersee. Two special survivors include her step granddaughter Angela Haritos who consistently came to visit her bonus grandmother until the very end and Mickie's sister in law Luann York with whom she had a close lifelong relationship. There are too many survivors to name that loved Mickie including her bonus grand and great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home North Freeway. Visitation will start at 12 pm with the services beginning at 1 pm followed by a gravesite service at the funeral home.
