I am so glad that I decided to look up Amirah's name. I goggled her to see what she was up to. Now, I know... that she has earned her wings. She sang with my band once at the Downtown Aquarium. I knew then, just like I knew while watching her on "Gimme the Mike," that Amirah had the voice and presence of an angel. I am so glad that she sang for us. She actually got me interested in singing standards again, because of her beautiful haunting renditions.
We love you Amirah. Rest in peace.
Ramsey Family-You are in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for allowing us to work with Amirah.
God bless,

My favorite Christian music artist, Steve Curtis Chapman sings a song called, With Hope, about the sudden loss of a young person. In the chorus he says, "We can cry with hope...we can say goodbye with hope, 'cuz we know our goodbye is not the end. We can grieve with hope 'cuz we believe with hope that there's a place where we'll see your face again." It's an incredibly moving song and I think it's recorded on his Speechless album. May you be comforted in the knowledge that this goodbye is not forever and that one day you will see Amirah's beautiful face again.

This message is addressed to the family of Amirah Ramsey. I never had the pleasure of meeting or knowing Amirah but I work with Steven. Just knowing that she is related to Steven lets me know that she had a beautiful spirit. I've heard such wonderful things about this young lady and I'm sure many were blessed from knowing her. May the Lord be ever so present in your lives. I will keep you all in my prayers.

God Bless,

My son Craig played guitar in the Bellaire HS jazz combo, with Amirah as the vocalist. When Craig first started playing with the band, he commented that they had a singer who "totally outclasses all of us". It's true, she did, but it never crossed her mind that she was better than the rest of the band.

In the spring of 2005, the jazz combo took part in a competition

in Fort Worth--Amirah's idea. I drove four of them from Houston to Fort Worth--Craig, the key board player, the viola player, and Amirah. It was a great time for all of us. Driving back they were making plans about continuing to practice during the summer and entering more competitions.

I suggested to them that they should get a gift for their music teacher, Mr. Grigessy, who had given so much of his personal time to work with them. They all agreed, but it was Amirah who immediately knew what he needed. He is a vegetarian, and often cooked vegetarian dishes in his room at the school in a microwave. Amirah knew he desperately needed a new microwave. So after we got back into Houston we stopped at Target to pick one up. They were all still in their dress clothes from the competition, Amirah especially in a beautiful gold gown and heels and a flower in her hair. The four of them marched into Target to pick out a microwave for Mr. Grigessy. It was such a funny sight I paused for a minute to call Craig's dad to describe it to him. We got the microwave, and they gave it to their teacher the next day.

I will always remember the jazz cafe they put on at the high school later that spring. Amirah was the star, I will never forget how she sang "Round Midnight" and "Georgia on my Mind".

I didn't know Amirah well, but she touched my heart with her warm and generous spirit. I can only think that God needed her wonderful voice in His choir.

I had the pleasure of working with Amirah in the Young Performer's Program at the Ensemble Theatre as well as the mainstage production, "They Sing Christmas Up in Harlem." She is a beautiful, talented, caring and giving woman and she inspired me with her passion and professionalism at such a young age.

Amirah had the most beautiful soul. She will be truly and deeply missed. I knew of her, but did not have the privilege of meeting her until our senior year in theater. My deepest sympathies are with her family. I know she is singing with the angels. Thank you for being a part of our lives Amirah, you really made each of our lives better.

To the Ramsey Family:

I send my deepest condolence and may God comfort you all. I met Amirah when she entered the magnet program at Key M. S. I was impressed by how talented she was and how she excelled in everything. Most of all I was touched by her love for her brother Amir. She was so proud of Amir and she would always praise him when he did something new. She loved her brother and made sure he was always doing fine. It did not matter if she was involved in a hundred activities she took care of her brother. Seeing the way Amirah cared for her brother I knew she was a angel. Amir you were Amirah's love. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to meet Amirah one of his angels!

With Love,

Ms. Nancy

We thank our Lord and Savior for Him allowing us to share part of Amirah's life with us. We were all are affected by this loss and pray that the family will keep in mind the Scripture found in Romans 8:37-39. I remember how competitive Amirah was on her swim team and how she encouraged my grandchilden to learn to swim at the Sharpstown swimming pool.

May 7, 2006

I met Amirah at Bellaire HS through my husband, David Jackson, when he was an Assistant Principal there. Amirah sang for us at the TSU College of Science and Technology Gala in 2005. She impressed us all with her talent and her poise. She was such a delight and her sound was that of an angel.

We prayed for her through her illness and we continue to lift you all, her family up in prayer. It moved me so to hear ‘Summertime’ again at her memorial because that was the song she sang for us. That was Amirah’s song.

Selfishly, we all want her to still be here with us because we love Amirah so much. But she was not ours to keep forever and we will have to accept that fact. She is one of our angels now, singing and dancing in the freedom of heaven.

I knew Amirah for 4 years from the Bellaire swim team. I don't think I have ever met or will meet anyone with such joy and life in their soul. I will always remember the good times we had. And to the Ramsey family, my deepest condolences for your loss. Though I have never met you I know what a wonderful family you are. Amirah always spoke so fondly of you, and now having seen you at her memorial I know how true she was. I see so much of her in you, her optimism, her faith, her joy, and her talent. I'm so glad such a large part of her will live on in you. If you ever need anything don't hesitate to contact me. May you find peace in God and your faith.

I knew Amirah all throughout high school and we became especially close through our three years in choir together. We were best friends and shared many silly and fun memories that I will still hold close to my heart. The last time I saw her was when she performed for my family and friends at my Graduation Party. None of us will ever forget her angelic voice, bubbly nature, and that contagious smile of hers. I have no doubt that Amirah is singing her heart out now with the choirs in heaven. Although I will miss her deeply, I am so glad I got to meet and share so many memorable times with one of God's angels here on earth. Our prayers are with the Ramsey family as they are going through this difficult time. May the peace of God be with them. - The Philip Family

To the Ramsey Family,

My heart grew heavy on yesterday when I received confirmation that this was truly Amirah. I just couldn't believe it- the last time she and I were together she was so full of life and was excited about life after high school :) I'm thankful to God that I was blessed by her presence. I met Amirah during the time that we performed together in "Black Nativity" and "They Sing Christmas Up in Harlem." What a pure angelic voice she possessed and a beautiful unique spirit to go along with it. There was so much joy in her as she performed- even through the times she wasn't at her best, she continued to press on. I will always treasure our dressing room "talks" as we talked about everything from music to how to keep our natural dos looking fresh :)

May God continue to bless and keep you. Look to him to give you strength during this storm. As I looked upon her yesterday and beheld the beauty that she is, I could not help but to think of her singing and dancing with the angels before God's throne. A beauty soul gone to soon for us, but resting in the arms of God from all hurt, harm, and danger. Love ya!

My heart aches for your family right now and my prayers are with you. I had the pleasure of teaching and mentoring Amirah in two phases of her life. I was a her drama teacher when she was in elementary at Wilson. I remember thinking what a special young lady she was and how I'd love to see how she turned out. I was blessed to be the program director when she later popped up at the Ensemble Theatre - all grown up and amazing. It always made me cry to watch her perform because she was so talented and beautiful. She taught me, even as a did her. I am a better person because I knew her. She is out of pain and suffering now, safe in the arms of the Master. May God Bless you in this difficult time of sorrow.

May 4, 2006

I have such a beautiful memory of Amirah when she was about 12 years old during a rare talent show we held during AWANA. She danced and twirled so gracefully around the Fellowship Hall, so confident and poised for one so young. Amirah made a mark on many of us during her short time on earth. I know she is in the Lord's presence, dancing and singing praises that bring great delight to Him. We will see you soon, Amirah.

From Roger & Patsy Partain:

Amirah is at last free and in the loving arms of Jesus. We can take great comfort in the assurance given in 1 Corinthians 15:54-57 which states "When this happens--when our perishable earthly bodies have been transformed into heavenly bodies that will never die--then at last the Scriptures will come true: Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. How we thank God, who gives us victory over sin and death through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

Amirah is now victorious thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
