Andrew Davis Obituary

Andrew J. Davis
01/28/1936 - 11/06/2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of AJ Davis, age 88, who left this earth on November 6th, 2024. AJ was born in Houston, Texas on January 28, 1936, to Bertha Mae and Andrew Jefferson Davis. He was raised in Pasadena, Texas. AJ was known for his athleticism, dedication, and a lifelong love of tennis. AJ graduated from Pasadena High School, where he was not only a competitive athlete but also played first chair cornet in the school band. It was during these formative years that he met his lifelong friend Roy and his younger brother, Denny, with whom he shared many cherished memories.
After high school, AJ attended Rice University before earning his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from Baylor University. Shortly after completing his education, AJ enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he honorably served his country. Upon completing his service, he worked for Transco before beginning a long and fulfilling career with the Internal Revenue Service, where he served as an agent for 32 years.
In 1961, while attending the wedding of his close friends Denny and Glenda, AJ fell for Jeanne, the love of his life. AJ and Jeanne married and raised three sons: Kirk, Jim, and Randy. AJ's pride and joy were his children and as PaPaw to his grandchildren. After retiring from the IRS, AJ continued to pursue his lifelong passions. A committed athlete, he remained active in tennis, often competing well into his later years. AJ also enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including traveling with his wife and family, skiing, working on cars with his sons and spending time with his loyal and beloved friends.
AJ was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha Mae, Andrew Jefferson Davis and sister Shirley. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jeanne; his children, Kirk, Jim, and Randy and his grandchildren, Summer, Geneva, Emilie, and Katie.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers, including Miss Darby and Claudia, who devoted their time and care to AJ during his battle with Parkinson's disease, providing comfort and support in his final moments.
On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, beginning at 12pm, there will be a Visitation for friends and family, followed by Graveside Service at 1pm, with a Reception to follow, from 2pm to 4pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. AJ's legacy of love, loyalty, and great sense of humor will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in peace. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in AJ's name to charity of your choosing.

November 13, 2024

My sincere condolences to the family of A. J. Davis. Like A. J. my husband Jerry Cummings (dec'd August 4, 2024) also worked for Internal Revenue Service for a number of years after working outside of government service. A. J. had a good sense of humor and was well liked by his fellow agents. May God rest his soul and may his family be uplifted by his friends and family.
