I looked forward to Thursday night during football season. Listening to Andy and Ralph bet steaks on high school games was so funny. His laugh made me laugh. I never met him but I called the station a few times just to take Andy's side. I'll miss His laugh and his knowledge of the game. Rest in peace my friend and prayers for the family on the loss. Andy and I were the same age and we grew up in Hallettsville. Even though these were the days of strict segregation , Andy and I became close friends during high school. Those were the days when the Catholic High School played on Thursday night, the public High School played on Friday night and the African American High School played on Saturday night. Most football players of all three schools went to each other's games. Clearly Andy was the best football player to ever come from Hallettsville. He played quarterback and was almost unstoppable . I can also say that Andy was an intelligent individual and was well aware of the civil rights movements that were happening and what was comming in the future. He subscribed to a daily Houston paper and was aware of what was happening regarding civil rights. We had long discussions regarding these matters and when I look back I realize that I learned a lot from his insight . My condolences to all of his family and friends. We have lost a truely great man.

Sorry for the loss of another good man from Hallettsville !!
I remember him,as we both grew up in good old Hallettsville, but never knew him well, as he was a few years behind me. But I've always been proud to tell my friends that we had a great pro player, with a Super Bowl ring, from Hallettsville.

I echo so many good things said about Andy Rice but what I remember most is his infectious laugh. There would be something that might happen that wouldn't be that funny but I would crack up simply because Andy was laughing. He had a heart as big as Dallas and I was honored to be able to work with him and it was a privilege to call him my friend.

Our thoughts and prayers goes out to the family of Andy Rice. The last time I saw him my brother and I were visiting a church and he was there. I reminded him that he use to DJ at my grandparents club in Shiner, TX back in the 70's.

All our hearts are so sad. For those of you who don't know Andy, you have missed having someone incredible in your lives. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Rice). But as exciting as Andy's pro career and two Super Bowl rings are, Wikipedia's entry misses the most important part as it pertains to those of us who knew him as a coach at Aldine. Andy's influence on so many youngsters he coached at Aldine High School for I don't know how many decades was remarkable, including -- but far from limited to -- the 1990 Aldine High team that won not only the State Championship but also ESPN's National High School Championship. It would be impossible to exaggerate the number of young Aldine football players Andy mentored. He was a major force in keeping so many of them in school and graduating to go on and lead very successful lives. Bill and I are so glad he came into our lives. He will be terribly missed. Please do sign the guestbook linked above so his family can share all your great memories

Thank you for being my friend during our years of coaching together, in basketball, while at Aldine. You took care of me, along with so so many others. You were a great man with a huge heart. The world will miss you. I hope that I will see you again.
