Angela Hallam Obituary

ANGELA HALLAM February 2, 1984 - January 17, 2002 Angela Hallam, 17-year-old daughter of Walter Hallam, energetic, visionary pastor of the largest church in Galveston County, and his wife, Cindy, died Thursday, January 17, when a private plane carrying five church members crashed into an unoccupied house in Temple, Texas. Angela, whose full life seemed always to rush ahead of her age, had galvanized the youth ministry at her father's 4,000-member church in La Marque, Texas. At the time of her death, she and four others were flying to observe another church's pioneering youth ministry. Angela was born February 2, 1984, the second child of a successful young businessman and his wife. When she was still a toddler, however, her father followed his calling and began a church in the family living room with 10 founding members. As her father's ministry zoomed and took him around the world, Angela often was with him - observing, listening to the cream of national and international speakers, making mental notes, storing up her own ideas for ministry. "She saw something and would say, 'I can do that; we should try that here.' She was full of creativity," said Abundant Life business administrator Rick Nash. "If anyone had her father's anointing, it was Angela - a fireball of energy and preaching." Most recently, Angela organized "Heartbreak Hotel, Hotel Hallelujah," a live extravaganza featuring celebrity impersonators, animals, bands, and more. From February to April more than 30,000 people - nearly double the town's population - attended productions, and some 3,000 committed their lives to Jesus Christ as a result. In May 2001, Angela graduated from Abundant Life Christian School a year early, with honors, and was third in her class. She was active in the drama club (voted most dramatic), received the Principal's Award, was a lady in waiting in the Homecoming Court, and was awarded best offensive in all-state and all-district volleyball competition. Her list of church activities was similarly full: junior high youth pastor, praise and worship team, choir, and church drama (national honors in drama through Oral Robert University, where, again, she was voted most dramatic). Like her father - who often said her generation was the greatest ever - Angela loved kids and was loved by them. "One of the pastor's early prayers and fears was that his kids would be the only ones in the youth group," Nash said. "As I was trying to comfort my own daughter about Angela's death, she cried and said, 'She was the one who always talked to me."' Angela is survived by her parents and two sisters: Jennifer, 14, and Catherine, 20. Services for Angela will be held on Monday, January 21 at 10:00 AM.
