Barbara Burzynski Obituary

Barbara Burzynski
1940-2021
Dr. Barbara Burzynski, affectionately known as Mrs. B, was called to the Lord on August 26, 2021. She was surrounded by her husband and three children and went peacefully to Heaven. Barbara was born December 31, 1940 in Nazi-occupied Poland to Aleksander and Maria Lenkiewicz. Her father was executed in her presence by German soldiers for giving shelter to the Jewish family and her mother passed away shortly thereafter. She was adopted by Zdzislaw and Antonina Sadlej and grew up in Lublin, Poland. She graduated with M.D. degree from Medical Academy in Lublin in 1966 and after internship and residency she began to practice obstetrics and gynecology. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1976 and naturalized as a U.S. citizen. In the same year she became employed by Baylor College of Medicine as a research associate in cancer research. While at Baylor, she co-authored research articles published in peer-reviewed journals. In 1977, together with her husband, she organized Burzynski Research Laboratories and Burzynski Clinic. She resigned from Baylor in July 1977. In 1983 the research laboratories expanded to Burzynski Research Institute, Inc., which became a publicly held corporation. Barbara became VP and a member of The Board of Directors and Chair of the Department of Pharmacy from the inception of the Institute until her death. She was involved in laboratory research, helping patients in numerous clinical trials and in private practice, co-authored numerous articles and participated in many scientific congresses all over the world. She bravely survived the harassment by evil forces which were trying to disrupt important cancer research and clinical trials. She participated in the organization of the Polish Catholic Parish in Houston Texas and together, with her husband, became a major contributor of the funds to build the Church of Our Lady of Czestochowa. She took an important part in the activities of the Polish community in Houston and her company office building served as temporary location of the Consulate of the Republic of Poland. She was decorated with the Cross of Merit, Officer Grade, by the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Grand Cross with the Star of St. Stanislaw and received the title of Countess. Her passionate spirit will live with her husband, children and grandchildren and many friends. There will be a Rosary and Prayers on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 7 P.M. at the Church of Our Lady of Czestochowa at 1731 Blalock, Houston, TX 77080. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 6 P.M. at the Church of Our Lady of Czestochowa and on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at 2 PM will be her burial at the Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery at 12800 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77077.

Dr Barbara Burzynski will be in my heart forever.
I will never forget my first appointment with Dr. B.
The little office on Corporate drive was mostly couches,
and filled with patients who were talking to each other.
Very different from the cold waiting rooms of UCLA and Stanford.
I was nervous and scared, my prior experiences with oncologists would account for that.
Then out comes Dr Barbara, and gives me a very warm welcome and a big hug!
I will never forget the feeling I had.....I was in the right place!
Dr Barbara was so caring of the children.
And all the kids loved her! Many times there would be a birthday celebration in the clinic.
Dr Barbara remembered birthdays. So kind and caring.
Beautiful, inside and out.
You are loved, Dr Barbara.
