Barney Owen Murphy

BARNEY OWEN (CHUBBY) MURPHY, 87, died June 10, 2002, at his home in Crosby. Preceding him in death were his wife of 62 years, Eunice (Sue) Tharp Murphy and brothers Edward Campbell Murphy and Denton Lee Murphy. He was born in Houston August 23, 1914, to Mamie Owens Murphy and Edward Campbell Murphy. He was a longtime member of the Lockwood - Clinton Rotary Club, where he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He served as vestryman and Senior Warden at St John's Episcopal Church in La Porte. He was also a member of the Texas Society Sons of the American Revolution - Paul Carrington Chapter. The Sons of the Republic of Texas, and Anson Jones Lodge No. 1313 A.F. & A.M. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Susan and William (Buck) Drake of Crosby, daughter Carol Murphy of Bacliff, and son Douglas Murphy of Bacliff. grandsons Robert Burris of Crosby and Colin Murphy of Bacliff. Also surviving is sister-in-law Betty Murphy of Katy, numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 14, at 3:00 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 102 East G at Broadway, La Porte, TX.
