Dr. Bernard ("Bernie") Harry Feldman, 87, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Yom Kippur, October 2, 2025. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, on February 22, 1938, to David and Faye Feldman, Bernie attended Central High School in Omaha before matriculating at Columbia University in New York at the age of sixteen. Bernie earned his medical degree at the University of Nebraska Medical School and began his professional career as a captain in the United States Army in 1965, stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, where he taught helicopter medics in battlefield first aid during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, Bernie trained in urological surgery in Minneapolis before settling permanently in Houston, Texas with his young family. Bernie's professional career in Houston spanned five decades, where he helped countless Houstonians with care and compassion and founded one of the city's first ambulatory surgical centers.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, David and Faye Feldman, and his brothers, Mike Feldman and Albert Feldman. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Sheryl Kost Feldman; his sister, Shirley Feldman-Summers, and brother-in-law, David Summers; three sons, Arthur, Lowell, and James Feldman; and his daughters-in-law, Jeri Amundsen, Jacquetta Feldman, and Karen Katz Feldman. He was the proud grandfather of Penny, Harry, Norah, David, Isaac & Karla, Daniel, Rachel, Josie, and Aaron, and their loving partners. Many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews and his sisters-in-law, Judy and Ellie Feldman, also survive him.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 10:30 AM in the Bender Memorial Chapel at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery, 7445 Awty School Lane, Houston, Texas 77055. Bernie supported the Physicians Benevolent Fund, texmed.org, and would have appreciated any charitable donations in his honor to that worthy organization or other charity of your choice.
