Boyd Bennett Moore

Boyd Moore Obituary

BOYD BENNETT MOORE affectionately called "Bunny" by close friends and family, passed away June 4, 2006. Born on February 1, 1942, Boyd was a 3rd generation Houstonian. Boyd graduated from Lamar High School and attended The University of Texas and was a successful philanthropist, inventor, and businessman. Boyd's early career started at Wilson Supply and Brown Oil Tools. He also ran "Custom Cable" of Houston. Boyd's creative mind, unique solutions and hard work enabled him to solve many difficult problems for Shell Oil Company, where he worked as a consultant for many years. Boyd has over fifty patents, was well known for solving the "impossible," and was always eager to share his knowledge with others. Boyd also created "Quick Connectors Incorporated," a specialty oilfield equipment company which features many of his inventions. His caring nature gave Quick Connectors a warm, family atmosphere that is not seen elsewhere. Boyd was active in many charities and brought knowledge and colorful wit to any conversation including his fondness of telling stories. One of his passions was collecting antique cars. He enjoyed entering car shows, where he won various awards with his 1950's red convertible muscle cars. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert "Bobby" and LaVerne Moore, and sister, LaVerne Marchand. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Chloe, his sister, Marlene Voight, and children Chris Oakes, Kent Karolik, Tammy Saxon, Susan Robinson, nieces, Suzanne Boystak and Lisa Smith, nephew Bob Marchand and grandchildren Chase Saxon, Grant Saxon, Reid Saxon, Nelson Robinson and Chloe Robinson. We all love him dearly and will miss him tremendously. Services will be held at Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway in Houston on Wednesday, June 7 at 1 pm in the Hankamer Chapel. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers that a donation in Boyd's honor be made to the charity of your choice or to the Golden Retriever Rescue of Houston (www.grrh.org) that Boyd supported and felt strongly about.

I can only remember meeting Boyd Moore once, when I was a little girl and he came to visit our house in Tyler, but I heard his name quite often while I was growing up. I did not know of his genius myself (I probably wouldn't understand most of it!), but heard about it from my father, who deeply admired Boyd. I always enjoyed hearing my dad's stories about Boyd Moore, I just wish I had known him myself. Please know that he will not only be missed by his family and nearby community, but many others far away too.

Dear Chloe:We were very saddened to hear about Boyd. We were all friends in "Who's Who", at least 20 years ago. How could anyone forget Boyd's invention of a fire-ring cover so we could have a big bon fire at one of our beach parties? His cleverness and sense of humor

made him one of a kind. He will certainly be missed. We send our love and prayers to you.

You've been in my thoughts often as I've had your sympathy card by the phone. Please know that many were touched by your sweet husband and we feel a great heartache with you.

Dear Chloe,

I regret I was out of the country when I heard of Boyd's death.

I had the privilege of knowing Boyd for the past 30 years. We first met when Boyd was president of Custom Cable, and worked together at Hydril for 3 + years.

Boyd was a mentor and co-worker, but most of all a friend. I am thankful I had the chance to have lunch with him a couple of times over the last 3 months. He will be missed by many.

My heartfelt prayers are with you and your family.

Sincerely,

DEnnis

The world is a less intersting place now that Boyd is gone. No doubt he was a rare genius and an even more rare unique, funny and generous personality. I first met Boyd 30 years ago when I was a struggling graduate student in the Texas Medical center. He hired me as a math and computer consultant for Custom Cable. His generosity was a big help to me financially but I got much more than that out of the arrangement. We had great fun solving problems together and became good friends. With all his health problems the past few years he was always concerned about my health and called often to check on me. I regret not finding out about his death until after the service, I would have done anything to attend if I had known. I will miss him greatly. I am sure many people feel the same.

To: The Moore Family and Friends,

On behalf of Niftee50ees and all of the classic car owners, we express our sincere and deepest sympathy.

We are pleased to have known Boyd for an all to brief time with his attendance at our weekly car shows.

He was colorful and a interesting participant along with a wonderful story teller as he shared his car stories with us. His generosity was greatly appreciated as he donated to our cause.

He will be missed. He had a spirit that shone as bright and proudly as his nifty Red Cadillac that we have pictured on our web site.

Our prayers and thoughts be with you.

We are so saddened by Boyd's passing. He was a gentleman and a very kind soul; his support of Golden Retriever Rescue of Houston meant so much to the organization that basically owes its existence to you and Boyd. Dear Chloe - We are so sad at the loss of our friend, Bunny. As you know, my sisters, Lyn and Edie, and our cousins Alvin, Melissa, Fred, Sally and Scott all grew up with him and considered him a member of our family. We have so many memories of him and we, too, loved him very much. He was a kind man and a good and loyal friend to all of us. We will miss him and remember him always. Our love and condolences to you and your family. Barbara Major

I only met Boyd recently, but I immediately liked and respected him. I was fortunate to spend an afternoon with Boyd last summer listening to his stories of invention and adventure in the Texas oil patch. I am deeply saddened by the news of his passing. Boyd was a generous and humorous man. Not mentioned in his obituary was another contribution Boyd made to his community. He was interested in the effects local air quality had on people with impaired respiratory function and this lead him to become a very active board member of the Galveston Houston Association for Smog Prevention. Because he was an inventor and he liked solving problems, he contributed to the configuration and evaluation of monitoring equipment that individuals can carry to protect themselves from high levels of air contaminants. Those of us who continue this work will now have to work hard to fill the gap left by Boyd’s departure. I will certainly miss his sharp sense of humor and refusal to take himself too seriously.
