Brian Rustagi Obituary

Our son, BRIAN RUSTAGI, died yesterday, Friday, July 12, at 3:10 P.M., in his sleep with his family at his hospital bedside. Brian suffered from a rare genetic disorder, Niemann Pick Type B. This condition is caused by the absence of an enzyme. During the seventeen years that he lived, this disorder caused major complications and required hospitalizations totaling over three years' time. It created a tremendous disability and ultimately caused his death. Research for a cure is nearing completion and will enter clinical trials within six to nine months. Tissue from Brain's body is being donated in an effort to further this research and shorten the time needed to make the enzyme available. The hope is that this will help save others' lives. In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to the Children's Association for Maximum Potential (C.A.M.P.) in Brian's name. This camp, which Brian attended and enjoyed over the past few years, is a camp for children with any severity of medical needs. It is staffed by doctors and nurses who volunteer their time to help these fragile campers enjoy normal summer camp activities. Each camper is also accompanied throughout the week by a volunteer student buddy. You can find out more about the camp and how to sponsor a brick in Brian's name at: http://www.serve.com/campcamp/brick.htm. Additional information about the organization is available at http://www.serve.com/campcamp/index01.htm. During Brian's short lifetime, he touched many lives. The memorial service will be Sunday evening, July 14 at 7:30 P.M., at St. Thomas Presbyterian Church, 14100 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas. Ajay and I want to thank you for your prayers and support over the span of Brian's lifetime, and continue to ask you for your prayers over these next few months as our family adjusts to this loss. Ajay and Merilee Rustagi, Karen, 14, Kevin, 13, Michelle, 11.

It brought great sadness to our hearts to lose such a loving person, but God has placed him in a better place. We miss Brian very much and our prayers are with you and your family during this time of sadness. We must continue to be strong and carry on as Brian would truly want us to.

I am so sorry to learn of the passing of your beloved Brian. I have prayed for him and the family, as part of the St Thomas prayer ministry. I live in Alabama but have attended St. Thomas with a good friend, Judy McCoy. I too suffer from a life threatening disease, mesothelioma, cancer of the lung lining. God is merciful and will see all of us through these difficult times. Lean on Him and draw strength from Him through your prayers. God loves you, and so do I.
